Ready to shift?

Come join us in January/February in Mexico for an amazing bilingual (English/Spanish) learning experience in an emergent Agile Learning Community.

Please note that this is our only offering in Puerto Escondido for the 2023 year. We have yet to decide on location and dates beyond this session.

We offer 3 different experiences to choose from:

1) Take our training The Shift: a 7 day long training for parents, adults supporting youth, facilitators and folks who want to transform how to think about education, parenting & community.

If you want to gain more freedom in life and build equitable & consent-based relationships with others and with yourself - this training is for you!

2) Stay for an additional 4 week ALC Immersion where learners (ages 7+) & their families come together to experience unschooling/worldschooling, build community and practice self-directed learning in an ALC setting.

3) Join our 4 week Agile Facilitation Intensive where facilitators put agile tools, conscious communication & conflict resolution into practice and boost their space-holding skills!

If you’re ready to start shifting things in your and/or your family’s life, don’t put it off.

We are ready for you!

Can you relate?

”I dislike society’s norms, but I don’t know how to step away from that kind of life.”

”I’m so done with arguing and fighting. I want to learn other ways.”

”Sometimes I feel like such a crappy partner/friend/parent.”

”I really want to offer my kids the freedom to learn, but I keep falling back into wanting to control them.”

”I feel that my kids and I are living a limited life. We should be free, but how do we get there?”

“I want to support self-directed learners, but I lack the confidence.”

“I feel lonely on the unconventional path I’ve chosen.”

We hear these things all the time! (We’ve even said them ourselves…)
We want to shift things in our life but feel stuck and disempowered, slipping into confusion, fear and control.
What you really need is a shift in perspective, tools and support.

We are here to help you.

The Shift is for you if you want to:

  • End power struggles and transform your relationships (kids & adults alike).

  • Understand how oppression shows up in your life and develop tools to live more freely.

  • Learn to build consent-based, trusting and authentic relationships.

  • Release fear of what others think of your parenting and/or beliefs & way of life.

  • Develop communication & conflict resolution tools.

  • Step away from conventional systems (i.e. school) with more confidence and ease.

  • Truly understand how we learn & how to support self-direct learning for yourself and for others.

  • Learn through play.

  • Get clarity on what deschooling is and/or how to deepen & have more confidence in your practice.

  • Experience agile tools & practices used to co-create intentional community & culture.

  • Be part of an emerging & awesome community.

The 4 week ALC Immersion is for you if you want to:

  • Experiment with a mixed-aged unschooling environment using ALC tools to practice self-direction.

  • Experience a sense of community while deepening your insight & understanding of another culture.

  • Support your kids in an environment that empowers learners to take ownership over their learning.

  • Support your kids to follow their curiosity, build emotional intelligence, cultivate respect, equity & autonomy.

  • Put your self-directed learning into practice for yourself and your kids.

  • Get support & develop tools in your parenting & deschooling process.

The 4 week Agile Facilitation Intensive is for you if you want to:

  • Deepen your facilitation skills and have a better understanding of what self-directed learning is.

  • Develop new practices to shed oxidized beliefs & habits in order to be able to hold space for self-directed learners.

  • Support learners to develop autonomy & independence.

  • Learn to build consent-based, trusting and authentic relationships with learners, facilitators and parents.

  • Deepen your understanding of how an ALC operates and how to cultivate a culture of trust & appreciation.

  • Get support from a professional and experienced SDE-team.

Now, slow your scroll for a second!

Imagine what it would be like to finally:

  • Understand where your limiting beliefs & programmings come from and why it’s been so hard to change.

  • Center relationship, share power, communicate clearly & navigate conflicts with more ease.

  • Feel more confident in your non-conventional path.

  • Have more joy in your life & deepen your connection to the people around you (kids & adults alike).

Sounds too good to be true?… It’s not!

We know because we’ve done it and because we’ve had the privilege to support so many more to initiate this process.
All it takes is openness, willingness and commitment to the process.

Are you ready?

We can’t wait to meet you!

But wait! Have we met yet?

What do particpants say?

"The Shift represents a before and after in my life. I wholeheartedly recommend it because it is taking me to places and heights that I never imagined I could reach.
Like everything in life, I know that one must be open to receive all of the lessons that life gives us on our journey and we receive these lessons when we are ready.
More than one month after taking this training, I continue to process, receive lessons and experience moments of deep realization. This week has definitely been the beginning of a marvelous adventure."

What do participants say?

“It was a magical week. This type of free learning lets you be your true self. There are no mistakes because we learn from mistakes and while you are connected to your heart, any path you take is the right one. I learned that the process is so much more important than the results, and that patience accompanies that. I lived a week of profound authenticity.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How are The Shift and the ALC Immersion connected timewise?

The Shift takes place during the first week of programming from January 20 - 27 (with a rest day on the 24th). We then have 2 days of rest where folks can explore surrounding areas. The ALC Immersion starts on January 30th and runs through February 24th. The ALC Immersion program runs Mondays-Thursdays 10-3pm & Fridays 10-1. The Facilitation Intensive runs during the ALC Immersion with an additional 6 hours each week for extensive training.

Can my kid attend The Shift Training with me?

The Shift training is for parents/ adults only as the content of the training is directed towards adults. For those needing support with childcare during the training we offer a childcare option with trusted care providers at one of the shared living spaces during the training. Sliding scale rates for childcare during the 7 day training is $175-$350 USD (economies of the Global North)/ $1,750 - $3,500 MXN (economies of the Global South). Childcare hours are 9:30 - 4:30 daily.

Can I be present with my kid during the whole ALC Immersion?

We have designed the program so that the first week is open to parents & kids and the following 3 weeks are focused on the kid’s experience. We have weekly excursions and other opportunities for connection open to all family members. With that said, we do know that some kids need more support and have greater attachments to their parents, so please reach out to us if that is your case and we can see how to support your kid’s needs as best as possible.

Can I just enroll my kid(s) in the ALC Immersion and skip The Shift training?

Although we hate to make things mandatory, we know first hand the importance of this work in supporting self-directed learners and building equitable relationships with our kids and so, it is a requirement for parent(s) of first time participants of our ALC Cultural Immersion Program to take The Shift training before joining us. If you have already taken The Shift, you/ your kid(s are welcome to enroll in the ALC Immersion.

How does the sliding scale work?

Equity, which is built upon both inclusion and fairness, is a concept close to our hearts. To help support equity and in an effort to balance accessibility with the financial sustainability of the program, we are offering a sliding scale payment plan. In assessing your place on the sliding scale we first need to know where you reside and where your economy is based (Global North or Global South). Global North economies include the US, Canada, Europe, etc. Global South Economies include Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Pacific Islands, and the developing countries in Asia, including the Middle East. Once you recognize where your global economy lies you can see the sliding scale rates in the charts above and see what rate best suits your financial position. There is space on the registration form to share your proposal for your participation based on the sliding scale. Remember, by being generous you are supporting other families that may need more support and increasing access to this opportunity and sustainability for our program. We trust you!

What is included in the costs? Will there be food? Housing?

The sliding scale rates include: participation in the program (Shift and/or ALC Immersion and/or Facilitation Intensive), Radical Learning first aid communication, additional curated resources, guide & tips to Puerto Escondido, lots of sharpie markers and sticky notes, new friends and a safe and inspiring place for your deschooling and self-directed learning process. The sliding scale options do not include: airfare, housing, food or excursions. Childcare outside of the ALC Immersion program is also listed separately in the sliding scale charts above.

Will you help us find airfare and lodging?

Ideally we would love to offer airfare and lodging (and one day we hope to have our own on site lodging), but quite frankly we aren’t there yet! Plus coordinating airfare and housing for everyone winds up being quite a thing… So, we’ve decided to keep the baseline costs of the program lower and ask participants to find their own transportation and housing arrangements. That said, we do have a list of housing options in a range of price points and locations.

What airport should I fly into?

The closest airport is Puerto Escondido (PXM). The next closest airport is Huatulco (HUX) which is about 1.5 hrs away. Oaxaca City airport is 8 hours away, so don't go there unless you have extra time and love traveling by car/ bus through the mountains. Please note there is only 1 airline that does connecting flights from Oaxaca City to Puerto Escondido (AeroTucan) and its quite expensive and hard to find flights. We recommend traveling via Mexico City.

Do I need a car to get around?

It helps but is not necessary. You can find taxis just about anywhere and there are also collectivos - shared bus transportation for about $30MXN ($1.50 USD) - that run throughout town and to neighboring towns (slightly more expensive).

Will you provide tips and local info to help us enjoy our visit/stay?

You bet! Once you register we will send you a guide book with local tips and info including suggestions on airlines. housing options, important medical/ emergency info, food/ grocery/ shopping/ laundry/ options, etc.

What if I register and need to cancel my participation?

To secure your spot we require a 50% non-refundable deposit and final payment is due by January 6th. However, if you need to cancel for any reason and we are able to fill your spot we are absolutely happy to refund your payment. Again, trust is a big theme here if you haven't noticed :)

Do you offer Early Bird discounts?

For sure! Register before November 15th to get a 10% Early Bird Discount!
